|Rules for pedestrians:|

Response to Aside. Japanese drivers
|It is very simple.|
Cars don't stop for pedestrians at pedestrian crossings.
If you're driving and stop at a pedestrian crossing to let somebody walk across the road you will get some pretty funny looks of puzzlement or surprise.
Stopping for pedestrians where there is no pedestrian crossing sometimes gets the same response but seems to be less or a puzzle. It is not unusual for a car to stop to let somebody cross the road.
You may wait forever to walk across a pedestrian crossing if it is a busy road.
