MUSASHI, Oita - A middle-aged man was stabbed to death on a road here, local police said Sunday morning.
At around 5:30 a.m., police received an emergency call saying that a man was lying in front of an office building along a prefectural highway in Musashi, with a kitchen knife stuck in his chest. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead.
The man has been identified as Mitsuaki Hashimoto, 40, a construction company president who lived near the murder scene.
A passer-by witnessed two men arguing in front of the building while another reported spotting a white car fleeing the scene early Sunday morning.
Police are searching for the car and are investigating to see if the victim was involved in any dispute, investigators said.
