"Hi, I'm an English teacher"

Response to Something's wrong

I'm not very smooth when it comes to approaching women, so every little bit helps, especially with ice-breaker lines. I was thinking more about women in bars and discos than rather than on the street. In Australia, I use the old "I have amnesia, do I come here often?" line without much success; I know gaijin have licence to act crazy in Japan, but I'd rather say "Hi! I'm a snow boarder" than "Hi! I'm an English teacher" if that works better. Are there any other methods/approaches that people can recommend?
